Mission Headquarters

The Mission Base is a very important part of JBYM. It provides a place to rest and reorganize for JBYM’s workers. Many meals are cooked, many loads of laundry are washed here to accommodate the staff, house parents, and visitors. The House Parents provide advice and stability for the staff who work here in Guatemala. Those who work at the Mission Base are often called upon to provide transportation and organization between JBYM’s different outposts. At the mechanic shop a wide variety of projects are performed- from vehicle maintenance to inflating the neighbor boy's soccer ball to welding.

Mission Base News

We were at the ranch for the weekend and I was sitting in church soaking in the Spanish sermon by Irvin, when the verse he was reading struck me in a new way. He was reading from Luke 10:19, it goes like this... "Behold, I give unto you power to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy: and nothing shall by any means hurt you!"
What is normal? According to one place, the definition of normal is ”a setting on the dryer.” The dictionary defines normal as “conforming to a standard; the usual, typical or expected.” For us, normal has been many things. We have lived in four houses, three municipalities, and two departments (state/province) in the two years we have lived in Guatemala.
